Odisha and Uttar Pradesh won awards on skill development at Global Skill Summit by EIFE and UNESCO

New Delhi: Global Skill Development Meet, organised by the Europe India Foundation for Excellence (EIFE), Brussels in close collaboration with the Permanent Delegation of India to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), was held at the Paris headquarters of UNESCO on May 23, 2016. This global summit marked the beginning of a crucial journey to showcase Skill India project
launched by Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi at the global state. During the summit a special session was conducted to recognise institutions and oganisations for their valuable contribution in the skill development areas. Government of Uttar Pradesh won as the best state in youth through skill development and Government of Odisha emerged as the winner in the best practices for rural skill development category. Other award winners are as followed: C K Skill Research & Development for best practices in assignment process, Fronius Group for supporting skill development in India and TÜV Rheinland for innovative practices in skill development. The meeting was attended by over 175 skill development professionals from France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and India. This was also the first time that experts from UNESCO and the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), also headquartered in Paris,  assembled on one platform to discuss on-going activities on skill development highlighted case studies of how India could learn from other nations in a similar phase of development as India. The next meeting is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 5  and 6, 2016 and senior officials from the OECD, UNESCO, ILO (International Labour Organisation) and the European Commission are expected  to attend the event, which will be the first EU-India Skill Development Meet to be held in India, after the EU-India Summit of March 30, 2016. The two-day event will be followed by a day of B2B (Business to Business) meetings and site visits, upon request of EU/Indian partners.
