Controversial Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse resigns

Maharashtra's Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse who had been embroiled in a slew of controversies has resigned. Khadse on Saturday morning met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the latter's official residence 'Varsha'. The writing was on the wall for Khadse who was facing a barrage of serious allegations against him. Khadse had to put in his papers after a damning report against him was forwarded by Fadnavis to BJP Chief Amit Shah a couple
of days back. BJP State President Raosaheb Danve will address a press conference at 1pm along with Khadse to announce the resignation. Khadse was in trouble after his family purchased a three acre plot in Pune that the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation had acquired and reserved for Industries. Khadse's family purchased the plot from the owner who was disputing the MIDC's acquisition of his land. The Minister's family purchased the plot for just Rs 3.75 crore, whereas the actual plot price was around Rs 35 crore. The Maharashtra Minister was also facing allegations that he had been in touch with gangster Dawood Ibrahim. An ethical hacker had claimed that the telephone calls from Dawood's residence in Karachi had showed that Dawood had been calling up khadse on his mobile. Khadse disputed it and also claimed that his card was cloned. The Mumbai gave a 'clean chit' to Khadse on the issue. The Minister was also facing the heat after one of his aides was caught for demanding a bribe of Rs 30 crore to get a land deal passed in his favour.
