Kozhikode gest first bus waiting shed made of recycled plastic bottles

KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode gets the first bus shelter made of recycled plastic bottles and unused tyres. Junior Chamber International National president Rajashree Bhaje commissioned the newly constructed bus stop in front of the old corporation office here on Saturday evening.

The bus stop was constructed using around thousand recycled plastic bottles demolishing the old structure. Unused tyres were also used for the beautification and gardening purpose of the space in the surrounding areas of the bus stop.

Considered to be first of its kind of initiative in the state, JCI constructed the work after obtaining approval from the city corporation expressing their wiliness to take up the work under their social responsibility scheme. The JCI Calicut -which has taken up the scheme on an experimental basis aims at propagating the message that even the waste materials can be reused as construction material.
The bus stop was constructed at a cost of around Rs 3 lakh. The bus waiting shed constructed on the concept of green building has seating arrangements and gardening outside the bus shelter. Siju Ignatius, JCI Calicut vice president (management), Vimal Radia, programme coordinator and others attended the function.
