Goa's Aguada Jail To Be Transformed Into A Tourist Attraction

The Aguada Central Jail, Goa’s erstwhile prison, which no longer houses prisoners since May 30, 2015, will now be transformed into a museum.
The Goa Tourism Development Corporation’s (GTDC) will convert the jail into a historical and heritage centre in a Rs. 25.8 crore project.

GTDC will join hands with Goa Heritage Action Group (GHAG), a group of heritage enthusiasts and freedom fighters to execute the project.
The museum will  include light and sound shows depicting Goa’s freedom struggle. Historical landmarks will be marked out for tourists to observe.
The four-hundred-year-old Aguada fort dates back to the Portuguese rule in parts of India. The cells of the Aguada Central Jail stand on the site that once formed the citadel of the hilltop Fort Aguada.
